In conclusion, compulsive gambling is an addiction. Compulsive gambling destroys homes, marriages, and relationships. Gamblers also resort to crime to support their addiction. Compulsive gambling can also cause medical problems and it also leads to death. Like other addictions compulsive gambling can also lead people down the wrong path in life. Compulsive gambling is just like a drug or alcohol addiction. So with all this said the government should step up and offer more help with compulsive gambling. They should offer more recovery programs for compulsive gamblers.

Conflict theories
Many families and communities around New Zealand are affected by gambling. Gambling can lead to, or is associated with:Relationship breakdown, divorce and separation, decreased work productivity, strained or ruined friendships, crime, depression, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, other health problems, debt and loss of assets, violence in the home, isolation from a person’s culture, family and community, neglect of children, poverty. Sometimes people think constantly about gambling, or steal to pay for it.
Gambling can affect families when bills are not being paid because the money has been spent on gambling. Gamblers may experience guilt, anger,
hurt, stress, shame, and arguments in the home. Sometimes a Gambler
is spending less time at home, relationships and children are being
neglected, or family items like TVs suddenly disappear.
The impacts of problem gambling can include families not having food on the
table, crime, people not turning up to work, or bankruptcy.( nzlotteries.co.nz) The conflict of Employment and productivity for a community is very clear when the benefits are compared with the problems.
The compulsive gambler may be absent from work or steal from work to fund gambling. Another study estimated that excessive gambling may preoccupy the gamblers mind whilst at work, affecting productivity.
All this can lead to a change of jobs due to gambling, or been sacked from a job.(Department of Internal Affairs Policy Unit.pg121)
Whilst on the other hand gaming has become a significant employer of unskilled and skilled workers .Through employment a variety of other social functions are fulfilled and money issues sorted, the government receives paye taxes. .(Department of Internal Affairs Policy Unit.pg5)
When there are two or more groups competing, such as eg: Govt & salvation army, the outcome is often social change. This conflict can arise from the desire to apease the masses and colect tax's, to stopping gambling that leads to the bankruptcy of a gambler.
There is no doubt that gambling plays an important part in people’s leisure time. There are a wide range of reasons for gambling and it is obviously a major source of enjoyment for many people. Gambling is a form of recreation which can ‘provide many with amusement, excitement and interest’. Gambling is a significant part of the culture and recreational heritage in New Zealand (Grant, 1994 pg46-49?).
Many gambling activities provide opportunities for bringing people together on social occasions and can contribute to a sense of social cohesion.(dia. Pg74)
